Helping us keep this program alive is more urgent than ever. Many state agencies cut their task forces and eliminated supporting our program because we have reduced deaths here in San Diego from illegal street racing accidents. We cannot forget the tragedies that have happened because if our program closes its doors, our kids and even adults will be left with no safe venue to get their need for speed out of their system.

The sad thing is, that as less people are affected by this (illegal street racing), the less we are talked about and the less people know about us and are aware that we exist. Many people have died and more injured because of this and sometimes it is not always the people in the car, but the innocent as well. We are faced with a unique problem that we have so helped our community in lowering and nearly preventing so many accidents that now we are forgotten. Sometimes it takes an act of congress to help our teens and young adults. They are the forgotten until tragedy strikes home. Then and only then do we get the coverage and support needed to keep this program alive.

There is no uniform code across the nation for officers to use in order to address and cite illegal street racing, so this epidemic is a hard one to wrangle in. Instead of offering mass awareness, we are stuck just reaching out once tragedy does occur.
